Attention Deficit Disorder and Ritalin
The debate over Ritalin and its use as a treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, also known as ADHD, has been going on for several years now. This debate affects many people, children as well as adults, who are afflicted with ADHD, which in the past several years has been on the rise. However, it also affects the people who come into contact with the afflicted person on a daily basis. For example, people who have ADHD also affect family members, friends, and teachers. Therefore, I am writing this paper to a committee of doctors who address the definitions found in the Diagnostic Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders. This committee is concerned with a person's health and well-being. When a question regarding the validity of a definition found in the Diagnostic Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders is brought up, the committee would find a resolution based on evidence and the qualifications of those presenting the case. This paper will address the question regarding Ritalin and its use as a treatment for ADHD. Those opposed to the use of Ritalin claim the definition of ADHD is too broad.
