The struggle for independence in Vietnam was arduous and indeed lengthy. After living abroad for thirty years, the man born as Nguyen Sinh Cung returned to his homeland to found the Viet-Nam Doc-Lap-Dong-Minh Hoi (League for the Independence of Vietnam) – most commonly known as the Viet Minh – in May 1941. Ho Chi Minh helped the Vietnamese significantly in his devotion to freeing Vietnam from overseas powers, even going to such lengths as to serve jail sentences for his radical actions and ideas.
