Teaching has always been associated with instruction in the areas of reading, writing and arithmetic since the inception of the teaching profession. Over the years a more rounded curriculum has appeared with science, social studies and history being added to enhance students intelligence. In fact, development of vocational and technical trades like auto body and drafting in high schools as well as business classes in management information systems, accounting and word processing bring a diversity of educational opportunities to students. We have even found methods of assessing the comprehension levels of students in many curriculum areas with the application of standardized testing at both the state and national levels of the education process. In this dynamic atmosphere the stakes have been raised for the teachers with the expectations of teaching behavioral and social ethics to students in addition to an academic curriculum. I will display the culture and value system of the high school, show the current value system in place, exhibit positive behavior modification for teachers (and myself) and finally address the questions, "How much responsibility is the teaching of behavioral and social ethics the teachers / school officials? Or, is the obligation an enforcement role and not a teaching role?"
The staff at my High School consists of the Principal, four Assistant Principals, an administrative aide, teachers, a guidance counseling staff, a support staff of administrative assistants, computer specialist, network specialist, behavioral specialists and media specialists, and a custodial and cafeteria staff. The culture of the school is one of family in the treatment of each other and daily actions to produce the results expected from each section of people to meet school goals.
