The House on Mango Street

The House on Mango Street is a very intriguing story. It brings out a whole new idea on what a home really is, it makes the reader truly appreciate what they have and family they live with. It also gives you a perspective of what it's like to be of a different race trying to provide for your family in America. Mango Street is a perfect example of a mother and father trying to provide a good life for their family in America.
The House on Mango Street has a very minimal plot. Rather then focusing on external events the author focuses on important events that occurred in Esperanza's life. This story covers approximately a year in Esperanza's life, a year however that would shape Esperanza's outlook on life. The story begins when Esperanza's family moves into a new rented home on Mango Street. The house is in poor condition, however, it provides them with more space and more independence then they've ever had. The house on Mango Street gives the family a sense of hope that one day they will have a house of there own...
