We have the pleasure of introducing to you our son, Matthew Nathanael Hartono, born May 26th 2004. When you see him, you'd think, "gee, what's so special about him?" and although yes, he does seem like just any other baby, but his story is quite an extraordinary one.
A few months after we had our wedding in February 2003, we were ready to have a family. All we could imagine was having a baby in our arms, watching him/her grow up to be someone special, and just having someone to love and care for. But after months of trying, we still weren't pregnant, and we decided to go to a fertility specialist where they ran a number of tests on both of us. Tests started out from simple blood tests, all the way to hydro and micro procedures, whereby I had to undergo minor anaesthesia to have the doctors take a "deeper" look inside. They finally came to the conclusion that Michael had a low level of sperm production, and I had trouble with anti-body that apparently was "rejecting" the sperm. He stated that it would be difficult for us to conceive. Besides the anti-body issue, the doctor felt the need to dig deeper, to find out if there were any other problems that I may have had, so he ordered another procedure called a laparascopy, which involved inserting a tiny micro camera into my abdomen...
