Abstract
The issue of poor lecture attendance is a concern faced by most lecturers, and not just those in the information systems field. Increasing and maintaining student motivation is recognised as the key to improving lecture attendance. Firstly, Educational institutions need to ensure that certain conditions and facilities are present to assist students in being more motivated. Thereafter, lecturers and tutors can employ several well-established and highly successful motivation techniques. Once course convenors and lecturers understand what motivates students and how to apply motivation techniques, they can design and deliver highly entertaining yet educational courses and lectures. They will transform themselves from bland educators to successful edutainers.
