Causal Assignment
In the early eighteen hundreds cowboy's roamed the lands of the west. They dominated the majority of the land and their livestock brought good revenue for the families of the ranchers. Today ranchers are forced to sell their cattle at low prices, suffer from debt and work long hard days just to make ends meat. The transition, between the days when ranchers ruled their land to today where ranchers fight off poverty, slowly came with the industrialization of the west. Through the growth of the beef industry, the demand for extremely low prices and the poor supervision of the large meatpacking corporations' behavior, the powerful beef industries caused the down fall of the individual rancher economy.
Since the birth of McDonald's and its competitors the demand for beef has been at record highs. The amount of beef people are consuming has increased and the fast food companies are striving to keep up with the ever growing demand. Fast food companies rely on the meatpacking industry to supply the quantity needed for such a high demand. Restaurants such as McDonald's have invested many hours and a large amount of money in the beef industry, which has led to the increase in power. The large beef corporations have more power than ever because of their relationship with the fast food industry...
