No invention has received more praise and abuse than computers although they
are a relatively new invention. The first computer was built about fifty years ago
and it is only in the last thirty or so years that their influence has affected our
daily life. Personal computers were introduced as recently as early eighties. In
this short time they have made a tremendous impact on our lives. We are
becoming increasingly dependant on computers and they are extensively
employed in many fields: businesses, hospitals, crime detection, fly planes, and
even in classrooms. We are now so reliant on computers that it is hard to imagine
what things would be like today without them.
Is this dependency on computers a good thing or should we be more auspicious
of their benefits? Concerning their usage in classroom, the issue that whether
computers will take the place of teachers in classroom has attracted public focus
with the remarkably growing usage. I wonder if this judgment can bear much
analysis since teachers still play the main role in educating students although
computers have made teaching more efficient than before. I will explore a few of
the most important reasons in detail below...
