The aim of my research was to discover how Early Modern English has evolved and changed over the last 500 years. I also wanted to find out what foreign languages have influenced English, and how the English language differs among the English speaking countries.
HOW HAS EARLY MODERN ENGLISH EFFECTED AND BEEN AFFECTED BY FOREIGN LANGUAGES? ... The period between 1500 and 1700 a huge influx of Latin, French and Greek words were adopted by Early Modern English. ... From North America Early Modern English embraced ‘raccoon’ and ‘squash’, from Central America came ‘chocolate’, ‘tomato’, ‘cannibal’ and ‘tobacco’, and from South America English incorporated ‘jaguar’ and ‘llama’. During the development of Early Modern English, it borrowed words from over 50 languages around the world, this is very surprising as prior to Modern English the only significant borrowings were from the Latin church.
Early Modern English not only borrowed but got borrowed from. French, German and Italian were the main languages that adopted English words into their societies. The French started to bring more English into their language and from here Anglomania began to spread through Europe, especially in Italy.
