The aim of my research was to discover how Early Modern English has evolved and changed over the last 500 years. I also wanted to find out what foreign languages have influenced English, and how the English language differs among the English speaking countries.
HOW HAS EARLY MODERN ENGLISH EFFECTED AND BEEN AFFECTED BY FOREIGN LANGUAGES?
For languages to expand they constantly borrow words from each other. The period between 1500 and 1700 a huge influx of Latin, French and Greek words were adopted by Early Modern English. Words were also borrowed from Asia, the Middle East, the Americas and other European countries. The renaissance, starting in Italy bought many words that have to do with the arts, such as 'stanza', 'violin', 'piano', 'concert' and many more. From the French came many specialized words, 'hospitable', 'gratitude' and 'rendezvous'. Borrowings that came from other parts of the world were generally to do with trade, cultural terms, or the names of plants and animals. From North America Early Modern English embraced 'raccoon' and 'squash', from Central America came 'chocolate', 'tomato', 'cannibal' and 'tobacco', and from South America English incorporated 'jaguar' and 'llama'...
