Learn From Reality TV…I Don’t Think So!
Should reality TV be considered real? Americans have recently found entertainment in such reality shows as The Bachelor, Big Brother, and The Apprentice, but why? Kimberly Palmer claims in her article “Young Adults Learn From Reality TV” not only that reality TV is genuine, but also comes with a “slew of benefits. ... In reality, all reality TV is simply another device to lure people to watch even more television, become even lazier, and contribute even more to the country’s obesity and attention deficit epidemic.
Why are people so fascinated with reality TV? An article written by Mentality proclaims “many psychologists believe that humans are fascinated by prying into other people’s lives” (Reality TV, 2003). ... “We cling on to the hope that maybe, one day, at some point in the series, some juicy gossip might be spurted out, or something steamy might arise in the bedroom – as long as the majority still cling to this hope, reality TV will continue to rock the air waves and be ever more successful.
