The most controversial period in United States political history started on Tuesday, November 7 and ended on January 20. This was the election of 2000.
On November 7, 1999, people from around the United States cast their vote for the president of their choice. Later that night, Florida was the last state to cast their votes and also the state who would decide the presidency. Early November 8, Al Gore was declared the winner of Florida's electoral votes by the media, therefore making him the president of the United States.1 Al Gore later called George W. Bush to concede, but later took back his concession.2 Al Gore's concession was retracted because the media had declared that it had made a mistake in calling Al Gore the winner.3 This now made George W.
