In the stories The Garden Party and Daughters of the late Colonel some similarities between the two were the idea of death. Another is the final words in the Garden Party Laura sees another perception and her idea about death changes. In Daughters of the late colonel the story ends leaving the reader blank this represents that their outlook on life doesn't change.
Realisation of death and its ultimate meaning, both stories deal with this idea as it occurs throughout the story and causes an impact. In the epiphany in The Garden Party Laura overcomes her fear of death and it changes her thoughts and perception on what death is made out to be compared to what it really is "it was simply marvellous" "isn't life, isn't life" It is when Laura visits the dead man and sees with her own eyes that changes her perspective. The man is lying peacefully in bed as if he was dreaming of wonderful things. "What did garden parties and baskets and lace frocks matter to him? He was far from those things. He was wonderful, beautiful". Its as if suddenly nothing else matters...
