REPORT: The Effect Of Music In Education
What is the effect/importance of music in education? As a dedicated musician I have come to realize the effect music can have on the mind. Emotions, thoughts, and actions can all be influenced as a result. It has been found to improve a child's performance in schools by enhancing a higher level of thinking. Music to my understanding is a form of art, which is highly valued and implemented by teachers within schools. Colours, pictures and objects that decorate most classrooms can prove this. Though when comparing secondary with primary school setting or even grade one to grade 6, we see music and art gradually disappear from classroom learning. It is understood that music in the older grades is not as much a requisite in learning, though can be focused towards 'at-risk' students. I believe I can use this attribute as a teaching tool, to help relate and educate students, regardless of learning abilities or school setting.
