Opposing Viewpoints Paper on Homosexuality
The following two articles offer opposing viewpoints on whether or not homosexuality is normal. These articles represent a classic case of an ethical dilemma, both trying to persuade readers of each of their beliefs of what is right and wrong. Neither side is free from bias and although one side may provide a stronger argument than the other, we are still left with the unanswered question: What constitutes right and wrong?
This paper is organized into four sections. The first section will analyze the pro side. The second section will investigate the con side. The third section will discuss synthesis, and the final section will discuss alternatives and my solution.
The Pro Side
In his article, "Homosexuality is Normal Sexual Behavior", Carlton Cornett contends that the belief that homosexuality is abnormal is based on flawed research and prejudice. He argues that the American Psychological Association's (APA) decision to remove homosexuality from their list of mental illnesses was founded because it was based on solid research and a majority opinion.
