Fashion
In the 1950's fashion for women and children changed, and well as for the men in the 1950's only small, if any changes were made.
The men's fashion hadn't changed from what it had been for decades. Men's standard outfit was the classic dull colour, matching jacket, vest and wide leg trousers, that was worn with a white shirt, hat and tie.
Men's underwear was an underpants in an Y front style made from cotton knit at waist height.
Men got a new fashion for summer. This change was for casual wear; the men wore shorts, long socks and an open neck ''loud'' shirt. The ''loud'' shirt was in most cases bright Hawaiian shirts.
As the boys went from children to adult the would usually go to wearing what the men did, but as the 1950's went on, a group of rebellious teenagers, with a reputation of being ''wild''made a change to the fashion.
The boys also named as bodgies, when going out jiving would wear tight black trousers, narrow ties, long loose jackets and bright orange, green or red shirts and socks. They wore shoes that were either lace-up chunky and had thick crepe soles called golf shoes or long pointed shoes called winkle-pickers...
