George Salinger is a deacon at San Quentin Prison. He works specifically on Death Row, and has even made friends with some of the criminals. As a speaker, George talked about his life before coming to this occupation and his battle with alcoholism. When he was a junior in high school, George began to drink alcohol. After high school, he married and had several children. However, his wife left him due to his alcoholism. George worked in many bars throughout San Francisco, jobs that only fueled his addiction. Eventually, George remarried to another woman. He finally managed to kick his alcohol abuse problem, and a friend referred him to a prison, where a minister was needed.
