Redemption: salvation or deliverance from sin through Jesus' sacrifice. This is the very definition that Flannery O'Connor would have said if she were ever asked such a question. She portrayed her idea of redemption in the diction she chose and the characters she involved in her stories. In the story "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" she showed us how redemption could be found in some of the places and from some of the people that you would never expect it to be seen in. The Misfit was such a character and as you will see the ideals of redemption.
The misfit was like any other man except for the fact that he was a convicted criminal on the loose and that he had a very deep understanding of religion. The misfit believed that he had been "done wrong" in that he had been convicted of a crime he did not commit. He may have not killed his father like he said but did the things he was doing now, did they make up for the time, the crime fitting the punishment? Yes, for one the grandmother deserved it and I believe June Star and Bailey boy would agree with me on that one and two if Jesus truly died for all mans sins then no matter what the Misfit did he would still have redemption. Only if he would have been there, the Misfit said as he pounded the butt of the gun into the ground, if only he would have known...
