The real trend of globalization has increases rapidly due to the technological development such as improvement in transportation, communication, printing, and computer technology has begun in the early 20th Century. Ever since its initial boom, globalization has affected people all over the world in all walks of life, from young and old to rich and poor. Based on my understanding according to what I have experienced, globalization is an instigation that helped spread cultures, ideas, scientific advances, and new technologies throughout the world.
Over the years, I have had a lot of things to reflect on my personal experienced with globalization has changed my life over the last decade. For this occasion, I would like to elaborate on some of the pivotal events that had been related to my history and how I was affected by different aspects of globalizationpolitically, culturally, and economically.
An enduring 15-year civil war between the Royal Lao Government and the Pathet Lao that led the Communists to overtake the country of Laos was the cause that drove my family from Laos. Our journey led us into the jungle, across the Mekong River, and further into Ban Vinai Refugee Camp in Loei Province of north central Thailand. On March 17, 1988, my family secretly entered the camp after it had been closed couple of years earlier. We were always worried that we would be sent back to Laos, and being sent back to the communist state would have meant death.
On March 19, 1990, my dad wrote a proposal letter which stated in full English to a UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the refugee agency of the United Nations) officer in Bangkok at the urge of his American friend who was a UN relief worker and English teacher in the camp...
