Operating Systems Common on the Internet
There are many operating systems available today to choose from. But, what are the common operating systems found on the Internet? What makes these operating systems most common? As with any operating system, operating systems used on the Internet must be reliable, stable, and yielding to the expectations of the person or organization. Statistics collected from a counter for Internet operating systems reveal Linux operating system leading the pack with Windows 95/98/NT trailing not far behind (Zoebelein, 1999). Third and fourth commonly used operating systems on the Internet are Solaris/SunOS and BSD family operating systems, respectively (Zoebelein, 1999).
