The Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath has a somber and pessimistic tone which in some way is a foreshadow of all the negative things that are about to happen to her. Although Esther Greenwood is only a character, the chronicles of her life are deeply reflected by the true life of Sylvia Plath. In addition to the negativity, Plath speaks in a disturbing tone that sets the mood of years in a mind of a life going down hill. She uses frank and vivid details of Greenwood’s life that properly convey what her true life was about. Throughout the novel, Plath writes about a women who has gone through the slumps of life and still could never be able to write about it.
