High quality teaching of mathematics is about challenge and joy, not imposition and pressure. Good early childhood mathematics is broader and deeper than mere practice in counting and adding. Quality mathematics instruction includes providing activities that are fun and engages children in plenty of hands-on activities. Preschool is a good time for children to become interested in the various mathematics concepts and process skills like, counting, sorting, building shapes, finding patterns, estimating, etc. Preschoolers should not be pushed into elementary mathematics. Instead, they should be invited to experience mathematics through play above any other methods.
