The impact of war is destructive by virtue of its clearly stated goals: to destroy, to kill, and to make the area uninhabitable, so that one side may emerge as the victor. The definition of war is a conflict carried out by force of arms, or weapons.
Human Conflict and Aggression
In the beginning of the human evolution people may have fought over a water hole, a dead animal, or an intruder trying to get in a cave. Humans intensified the struggle for existence beyond levels of necessity. At the beginning of human evolution humans used muscle strength to decide who owned things this was soon replaced by tools and the skills to use them. From this point on weapons and intellectual superiority began to replace brute strength.
The Evolution of Weaponry
The scale of conflict grew as people began to increase in numbers and come together to form groups and tribes. Advances in agriculture made nomadic roaming unnecessary, so it became important to defend property and to claim and expanded land holdings. Expansion was no longer based on the availability of food but instead to gain more land.
