Fiesta Facts
Fiesta is a 10 day celebration held in the spring of each year in San Antonio, Texas, to commemorate the Battle of the Alamo.
The first Fiesta event in 1891 was the Battle of Flowers, a parade of women in horse-drawn carriages throwing flower petals as they go past the Alamo.
Fiesta also has been known as the Spring Festival and San Jacinto.
During the 1926 Battle of Flowers Parade, a horse ridden by 1 of the King's armor clad escorts got spooked and bolted off the parade route. Little known to the rider, whose helmet visor slammed shut, the horse ran through the Gunter Hotel Lobby.
About 50,000 Volunteers keep Fiesta running each year.
Cascarones use to be filled with perfume.
King Elamat was the first Fiesta king. (That's "tamale" spelled backwards)
