Steroids and Sports
Recently a senate committee heard testimony from the Major League Baseball commissioner and the player's union president. During this testimony the commissioner was ready to change the steroid policy, but the union president seemed to give the opposite impression. This is not the type of example that we want for our young high school and college athletes. These young student athletes should not be encouraged by their professional counterparts to start taking steroids in order to compete. Rather, we need to have a more stringent policy in professional sports, and especially in baseball. Also students need to have more education on steroids to know the consequences of taking the drug. With better policies in professional sports, and an education program in every high school and college athletic program, we may be able to send the right message about the use of steroids.
To help these types of programs along we need to identify what steroids are and what they can do to the human body. The proper name for steroids is anabolic/androgenic steroids.
