PAPER 1
Framing the Bride by Bonnie Adrian
(Chapter II and III)
After having read just three chapters of "Framing the Bribe" by Bonnie Adrian, I've found out so many things about Taiwan and Taiwanese culture as I haven't learned in my whole life! Some of those things surprised me, some of those things made me think differently about contemporary Taiwan, and some facts that I've read simply shocked me.
To illustrate what I mean, let's have a closer look at chapters II and III of the book.
First, I would like to mention that I am a big fan of photography: I carry my camera all the time with me (OK, maybe, accept college), I take pictures of me, my friends, relatives, architecture, animals, nature, bits and pieces, etc. I enjoy taking pictures as much as I enjoy being photographed. Some people call me "obsessed" with my hobby, and, I thought, maybe they are right. But after having read couple of chapters of "Framing the Bride", I am not that sure that my hobby can be named "obsession" anymore. I never new that Taiwanese brides and grooms like photography, so much that it gave birth to very competitive and flourishing industry , the bridal photography. Just look at that time-consuming and expensive procedures the bride and groom spend on taking and making pictures for their bridal photo albums and portraits! And I would probably understand if those pictures were authentic images of their lives, which would represent some dear memories, some particular moments...
