For my Build a Better Oyster project I constructed a filter that consists of layers of cotton, carbon, paper towel and sand. The main reasons I picked these materials were because my friends said that they worked good. After several messy tests and a little help from my dad I finally got my filter to work. At the top of my filter I had a paper towel. The main reason why I put this there is to take out the big pieces like rocks and humus. After that layer I had sand. I think that the sand was the most important thing in my filter. That and the paper towel. The sand took out most of the small things in the soil. After the sand I had paper towel again...
