“I am happy when...” In a barren field a tree is planted. From this tree a bird may build its nest, raise its young, and fruits may sprout from its branches and nourish the children of the future. When the first successful English colony, Jamestown, was established in American in 1609, courageous pioneers endured harsh conditions of a frost bitten winter, starvation and Native American raids so that future generations could have the privilege to live in America, the land of independence and freedom. America is a symbol of independence, proudly defending its “natural rights” against the massive British army. After years of salutary neglect by the British Crown, the American became self-sufficient and ran a proficient economy through trade and created a government that took the people’s ideas into consideration. This government is a democracy where the people elected a representative body to decide on the affairs of the country. Tired of being heavily burdened with unfair taxes and constraints by Britain whom has been neglecting them for decades, the colonists took a stand.
