Server Hardware
Although the server computer is much like a personal computer, it is often considerably more powerful. With many clients requiring its services, a more powerful processor, more memory, a larger hard drive, and more powerful network adapter cards all help the network server keep the information flowing. A typical server computer has at least a Pentium processor and 16- to 32MB of RAM.
As computers get faster and network demands grow, you may find yourself replacing your server computer with a more powerful one. Often, you can recycle your old server as an excellent client computer.
Client Hardware
With the shared services concentrated in network servers, client computers do not need the extra RAM or hard drive storage that would be required if they were to serve the information themselves. A typical client computer now has at least a 486 processor and 8- to 16MB of RAM.
