Cultural relativism refers to an attitude that one culture should not be judged by the standards of another. Basically this means that anthropologists should keep an objective or non-biased approach to their research. This presents issues for Christians ministering in other cultures. At the same time that cultural relativism has its weakness, it does also have its strengths.
Cultural relativism presents problems for Christians because it does not completely agree with the Bible. The Bible is quite clear about what is right and what is wrong. Cultural relativism suggests that people should regard all cultures through a different lens. All aspects of a culture should be accepted because the beliefs of the people within the group are equal to all other beliefs. Despite the individual's beliefs, he needs to accept all parts of another culture.
