Wal-mart is one of the most successful retailing stores in the world. Sam Walton and his wife Helen founded wal-mart in 1962. More than 95 percent of the money was put up by the couple to open the very first store in Rogers, Arkansas.
Today there are more than 1.3 million associates worldwide and nearly 5,000 stores and wholesale clubs across 10 countries. Most of the success for the company came from the idea that Walton believed he knew and understood what consumers wanted in a retailer.
"The secret of successful retailing is to give your customers what they want," Walton wrote in autobiography. "You love it when you visit a store that some how exceeds your expectations, and you hate it when a store inconvenience you, or gives you a hard time.
While many other stores were expanding across the country, Walton was raising money to open 15 Wal-mart stores. Wal-mart really took off and was able to open over 276 stores when its stock was opened to the public on the New York Stock Exchange...
