Jimmy Carter, was born October 1, 1924, in a small farming town of Plains, Georgia. His father was a farmer and a businessman, his mother was a registered nurse. Peanut farming, Politics, and devotion to the Baptist faith were the backbone of his development.
Carter was educated in Plains' public schools; he attended Georgia Southwestern College, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and received a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. While in the Navy he was assigned to Schenectady, NY, where he took graduate work at Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics, and served as senior officer of the Seawolf.
In July 1946, Jimmy Carter married Rosalynn Smith. After seven years in the service his father died and he relocated his family back to Plains, Georgia to take over the Carter farms.
