In all the literary works that we have read, there has been a hero. There are many different traits that characterize heroes. The same character is not always seen as the hero by everyone that reads a particular piece of work. I think that the perception of a character's traits is the ultimate reason for the reader to characterize he or she as the hero.
In the epic _Gilgamesh_, Enkidu shows more characteristics of a hero than does Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is arrogant and self-centered. Two specific traits that characterize Enkidu as a hero are his loyalty and trustworthiness. Enkidu and Gilgamesh have a confrontation when Gilgamesh decides that he wants to go into the woods and fight Humbaba. Enkidu tells Gilgamesh that he met Humbaba when he lived in the forest. He continues to tell him that Humbaba has tremendous strength and that he was appointed by the gods to protect the forest...
