The End of the Affair
In the beginning of the book, The End of the Affair, the main character, Maurice Bendrix, describes to us the book by telling us: "So this is a record of hate far more than of love" (pg. 7). From the characterization to the setting to crises and climax, this book is filled with all sorts of hate. The affair was one that was confusing and I probably would never have understood the movie, if it were not for the book.
Maurice and Sarah's affair was one that had many ups and downs. Through the whole book it seemed as though all Maurice was trying to do was find love. He was trying to find love with a woman who was married and that's what made their type of love so steamy and devious.
"'I want Maurice. I want ordinary corrupt human love." It's all I can give you, I thought...
