John Proctor
John Proctor is a very complex character. Depending on the point of view he can be recognized as an evil person or a good person. He is, after all, not a complete evil human being. He is a good man that has done evil. John Proctor made a fatal error when he started an affair with Abigail Williams. This action led to the jealousy on Abigail's part and her desire of revenge. She wanted to get back at Goody Proctor just because she was John's wife. He also realizes what a big mistake he made. "Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I'll ever reach for you again...
