2.1 Critical issues of IS Management
The top concern in a survey results from Computer Science Corporation 2001 is “Connecting to customer, suppliers, and/or partners electronically”. A variety of IT applications, including enterprise resource planning system, help build the electronic connection between organization and its trading partners.
Second-place concern in the survey is “Optimizing organizational effectiveness”, and in the third place is “Optimizing enterprise-wide IS services” IT application such as groupware, data warehousing, data mining, decision support system and executive information system provide manager with the information and the tools they need for effective decision making. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) together with data warehousing and groupware are aimed at providing high quality, consistent IS services throughout the organization.
The forth on the list critical issues is “developing an electronic business strategy”, and fifth on the list is “Organizing and Utilizing data”. ERP is one of the applications that can help organize and utilize data to improve the performance of the organization.
