The style in the 1940’s was very different from the style today. Women's coats had large collars and enormous shoulder pads. Fur coats where really popular. Women rarely wore hats but if they were to wear one, it would have been small. Women who worked during the war often had to wear turbans to cover their hair. Young girls for sports wore ankle socks. Ankle socks developed a name called the bobby-sock because young women wore them a lot. The shortage of stockings led women to paint their legs in order to create a stocking effect. Some women created seams in their stockings by coloring the back of their legs in a darker shade of make-up. Dress colors where solid, pocca-dotted, or floral. Sure the coats where different, but so was the underwear. Ladies had Brassieres instead of bras that were cut to lift and accent the women's breasts; this is similar to the wonder bra.
