To most people, being captive means being held prisoner. Michelangelo's sculpture shows a man being held captive in a piece of stone. The man is a slave to the stone he is attached to, because he can never leave it. In many ways, this sculpture is a metaphor to life.
All people are stuck in the realities of life. Even as they grow older, they can not escape it. When they are young, they have peer pressure, bullies, schoolwork, and nagging parents. When they are older, they have work, money, and children. They often try to escape from it, but they can't because of responsibility. The man in the statue is trying to escape from his block of stone...
