Who's Packing and Who's Not
For quite some time, the argument surrounding Ohio's involvement in allowing its citizens to conceal and carry handguns has been a continuous debate for Ohio legislators. Though some residents feel that the law will create safer communities by instilling fear in would be attackers, others view the law as providing mass opportunities for more gun violence; and with good reason. The conceal and carry law is a much heated debate because it effects not only the carriers, but also the by standers. For people who have been victims of past attacks, the conceal and carry law would now provide them with the comfort and security needed to live their daily lives. But for other Ohioans, the ones who currently feel safe during their daily activities, they would now feel threatened to know that the majority of the public is carrying a concealed weapon. Though many other states have already sided with the conceal and carry law, Ohio should reject this proposal and concentrate on creating alternative methods and laws to create safer home, work, and public environments.
For about 80 years now, Ohioans have been fighting against a ruling that has placed a ban on its residents concealing weapons on their person. Because of this ban, many residents feel that their constitutional rights are being withheld. Andrew Welsh-Huggins from the Associated Press writes that "people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security" according to Article 1, Section 4 of the Ohio Constitution. Although he is true, this doesn't mean that everyone should be able to carry a weapon on them every second of the day...
