William Bradford and Captain John Smith both tell of suffering of their respective groups of settlers. Both groups ran into problems, one group with sickness and death, the other with weather and a not-so-warm hello. Who had it worse? William Bradford's group had strong winds and snow, but the help of two natives, John Smith's group had sickness, arduous labor, and death.
William Bradford's group ran into many problems. Weather really took its toll on the ship. On the way to the New World, the ship acquired much damage. A main beam in the midships was arched, but was fixed by a large screw that some crew members brought from Holland. After arriving at Plymouth, while exploring, the wind, being too strong, broke their mast and their sail fell into the water. The Pilgrims were not greeted with a nice, warm welcome either...
