Relating Harper Lees life to the lives portrayed in To Kill A Mockingbird

In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, the characters are similar to the people that Harper Lee had relationships with
when she was growing up in Monroeville, Alabama. Some critics would even say that the book could be considered an
autobiography. (Bloom 9). Harper Lee portrayed southern life in the 1930's superbly, but a lot of critics disagreed on the
point of view and plot. The book is based on a couple of real life situations that occurred in Harper Lee's life, but the plot
is very fictional.
The narrator of the book, Scout Finch, shares a lot of qualities that Harper Lee possessed when she was an
adolescent. Harper was born in 1926, which would make her around the same age as Scout was in the 1930's. (Bloom xi).
Both girls had tomboyish ways and were not very mannerly. In the book Scout would play with her brother and Dill all
day long and would act just like a young boy would...
