Today January 23, I went to the McNay Art Museum. I found it very interesting that this historic museum opened in 1954 and it was the first modern art museum in Texas. This art museum was left here by Mrs. Marion Koogler McNay with her art collection and "for the enjoyment of modern art." The McNay has collections of the 19th and 20th century European and American paintings and sculptures. There are even many outdoor sculptures provided to see.
For example I had two outdoor sculptures that were my favorites. The first one was titled Horizontal Column of Five Squares Excentric II by George Rickey made here 1994 with stainless steel. I enjoyed this sculpture so much because it was something I had never seen before it was very eye appling and the five horizontal squares were wind powered meaning the slightest breeze would rotate the squares. The other outdoor sculpture that was so fascinating was on the side of the museum it was untitled but it was a blue figure by Joel Shapiro made with cast aluminum and paint...
