Unix is one of the oldest and most powerful operating systems still in use today. It offers what Microsoft has been promising for years, though many computer analysts agree that Microsoft still has not been able to achieve the power of Unix. Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie developed Unix in 1969 while working at Bell Labs. In 1974, Unix became the first full Operating System written in C (Search Enterprise Linux, 2004).
Linux, the brainchild of Linus Torvalds, was first developed in the early 90's, while a student at The University of Helsinki in Finland. He developed the Linux Kernel 2.4 and by utilizing the Internet and with the help of other developers in the Free Software Foundation, the Linux operating system was born. What was developed has basically matured to a child of Unix.
