Kate Chopin's, The Story of an Hour, is a short story about a woman who experiences the loss of her husband. The story follows the reaction of Mrs. Mallard as she is told that her husband has died in a train wreck. A plot twist is presented in the end that exemplifies irony when Mr. Mallard, believed to be dead, walks through the front door of his house and his wife drops dead almost instantly. Aside from irony, another theme is also seen as the story unfolds. Mrs. Mallard bursts into tears(as expected) as soon as she's told that her husband is dead, but soon thereafter her mood changes as the theme of freedom being more important than love is shown.
