The majority of Americans are not eating healthily. They are either over weight or too skinny due to an eating disorder. What they need is a healthy diet. But what is a healthy diet?
The ingredients for a healthy diet could be followed from The Food Guide Pyramid, which is an outline of what to eat each day based on the Dietary Guideline provided by the USDA. The Pyramid includes a variety of foods to get the nutrients one needs while the same amount of calories to maintain healthy weight (The Food Guide Pyramid). On The Food Guide Pyramid, bread, cereal, rice and pasta are the most important part of a daily supplement, while fats, oil and sweets are the least, and everything else in between. More recently, another food pyramid, called the Asian Diet Pyramid, was introduced to the United States. The Asian Diet Pyramid is slightly different than The Food Guide Pyramid with meat being on top of the pyramid, meaning it is the least important in the daily supplement.
