In 1950 . only 2 cities . New York and London were called mega cities. By 1998 there
were 24 such cities. 18 in developing countries, 8 in developed countries.
Over 10 million people EG Beijing, Delhi, Calcutta, Buenos Aires, Lagos and Seoul; Over
15 million people, Mumbai, and Shanghai; Over 17.5 million, Sao Paulo, Over 18
million, Mexico.
Size not necessarily a measure of city.s economic, cultural and political importance. EG
London, 25th in population, 3rd in importance...
