Sexual Stereotypes as Political Ideology 1. Woman is emotional rather than logical. She is not bright. 2. Man is active and independent; woman is passive and dependent. He does, she is. 3. Women are naturally mothers; their greatest desire and only true fulfillment lies in maternity. 4. If woman is naturally stupid, dependent, and passive, then, of course, she is naturally subordinate to the male. 5. When woman steps out of her natural role, disaster results. Patriarchy: The manifestation and institutionalization of male dominance over women and children in the family and the extension of male dominance over women in society in general. It implies that men hold power in all the important institutions of society and that women are deprived of meaningful access to such power.
