I've decided to tackle a morbid topic a lot of people try to avoid; death & dying. Over the past couple of years many people close to me have died and because I've been preoccupied with the subject I find writing about death and dying to be healing. This topic can be expressed through a five-stage process: denial and isolation, anger or resentment, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance.
Through my personal experiences, I've found that dying is associated primarily with old age. I have volunteered for an organization geared for the needs of the elderly. Working with "Friends of the Elderly" I've had the pleasure to talk to countless older people. However, death is not restricted to the elderly, for younger people also die.
I know most older people are uncomfortable with discussing the prospect of death. Through various conversations with my elderly friends, I found they want to avoid common words associated with the subject. Instead, they use terms such as: "sleep", "pass away", and "rest"...
