Better to Choke Me Than to Stifle My Art
When a young boy or girl picks up a crayon for the first time, he or she will soon discover what it means to create art. In that instant, the child is transformed into an artist. His or her creation might look like someone threw up on the page, but a proud mother will no doubt display it on her fridge. Hence, art is subjective. Consequently, artwork that may seem beautiful to one person, may be offensive to another person. The government will often interject in cases where a certain piece of art is unacceptable to a majority of citizens. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a balance between freedom and restrictions upon artistic expression. Censorship of the arts, however, is deplorable. Censoring art ignores the rights of parents, disregards the artist's rights of free expression, and is simply infeasible.
