I. Introduction
Our group investigated the recruiting/hiring process at Elgin Community College.
This paper is to describe in detail how ECC hires its faculty. We concentrated on the hiring of the full-time faculty, because this is the function of the Human Resource Department. To find the necessary information we explored ECC's web site, and the HR link in particular, and interviewed HR's Recruitment and Staffing Representative, Winnie Chiu, who provided us with details on the hiring process as well as the demonstrative paperwork.
II. Summary of the Report
In our report we discuss the following issues: differences between hiring full-time
and adjunct faculty at ECC, the requirements for the applicants, the role of HR and Department Deans in the hiring process, the selection process of applicants, the interview and testing, the screening of the applicants, and in conclusion, the reasons why one would want to apply for a teaching position at ECC. It seems as though ECC has a well-thought-out process for hiring, considering that their turnover rate is pretty low, and mostly due to retirement, according to Winnie.
