LOCAL AREA NETWORK This section introduces the topology, the media access methods, and the different virtual local area network for the four local area networks (LAN). Each LAN is high speed data networks that cover a relatively small geographic area. I t will connect workstations, personal computers, printers, servers, and others devices. This configuration offers computers users many advantages, including shared access to devices and applications, files exchange between connected users, and communication between users via electronic mail and other applications. Topology LAN topology defines the manner in which network devices are organized. It’s all the combined physical, logical, or virtual components that make up the network or network segments. Even though there are many topologies we will apply the star topology in all the four locations. Computers and others devices will be connected to a switch in the star manner. One of the reasons to use a star topology is that a loss of any node will not disrupt network operations. Also, it’s easy to add or remove a node from the network, and particularly easy to setup and troubleshoot a star topology. Media access Methods Switched Ethernet is the media access method in the four locations. This method has replaced the shared medium of legacy Ethernet with a dedicated segment for each station.
